Nana’s Pizza

“home is where the pizza is”

Every Sunday morning while visiting my in-laws, we would get to enjoy my mother-in-law’s delicious pizza. My mother-in-law was Irish, but her mother-in-law taught her to be a great Italian cook. I have been trying for years for my pizza to taste like hers; She was another one who didn’t measure. Since she’s passed, my father-in-law makes the pizza and it is just as good as hers. My father in law tells me what to do (without measurements) so this is what I’ve come up with. Hope you like it.

  • 1 – 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes
  • salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and basil to taste
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • grated cheese
  • less than a handful of sugar
  • 2 pounds of dough

I combined all the ingrediants in a bowl. I use a rectangle stone pan to put the dough on. I’ve tried the make the dough from scratch but I don’t like the way it comes out. I still have to tweak it, so I give in and use store bought pizza dough . Flour the counter and roll out the dough. Brush olive oil on both the pan, and top of the dough. When you transfer dough onto the pan, flip the uncooked pizza onto the pan, oil side on the bottom. I put the dough in the oven naked for about 15 minutes on 350° before adding toppings. I then add the sauce and toppings and bake for 30 more minutes or until the crust is done.
