So while the meatballs are cooking I start my “gravy” . The gravy I make is a combination of my dad’s and grandmother’s. Throughout the years I have mastered a delicious (so my kids say) gravy.
- 2 cans of crushed tomatoes, use your favorite brand
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste or more depending on if you like a thick gravy
- 3 or 4 garlic cloves, minced
- salt and pepper to taste
- garlic powder to taste
- Handful of Fresh parsley
- Sugar
I start by heating the tomato paste, seasoning and I add a little water. Than I add the cans of tomatoes and I fill one of the cans with water (you can use 2 cans of water) and stir it in the pan with the tomatoes. I cook it on medium heat, I then add the parsley and the sugar. The amount of sugar is determined on how sweet you like your food, I put in a couple of handfuls. I then start to put my meatballs in gravy so they can finish cooking. I simmer the gravy for a few hours or until we are ready to eat.
